BOY: Twin Genesis

Sealed PVC inflatable sculpture

Size: 510 x 480 x 500 cm

Location: China World Mall, Beijing

Year: 2026

BOY: Twin Genesis continues Kalman Pool’s ongoing BOY series, presenting a conjoined lifeform composed of two intertwined bodies. Connected through a central chamber, the two entities form a shared system—distinct in appearance, yet sustained as one organism.

Originally conceived through VR sculpting, the work translates a weightless digital form into physical space at monumental scale. What once existed in a gravity-free virtual environment is here reconstituted as a suspended presence within architecture, bringing a virtual mode of existence into reality.

The sculpture is sustained by internal air pressure, requiring continuous balance to maintain its form. Air here is not merely a material, but a condition of existence—introducing a sense of fragility and instability into the work.

Rather than functioning as a fixed object, it exists in a state of tension, where its presence depends on the delicate equilibrium between form, pressure, and environment.

Installation Process

This section documents the fabrication and assembly of BOY: Twin Genesis.
The inflatable structure is produced in segments and assembled into a continuous body, with the central chamber functioning as the core connection between the two forms.

During installation, the work is manually positioned and calibrated before suspension. The process highlights the transition from soft, grounded material to a suspended, weightless presence.
