Kalman Pool earned his BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2019, followed by his MA in Painting at the Royal College of Art in London in 2021.

Drawing inspiration from BioArt and the intricate tapestry of natural history, Pool’s interdisciplinary creations delve into the dynamic interplay between the virtual and the tangible. His oeuvre seamlessly blends virtual reality techniques with tangible mediums, birthing a realm where VR-made bio-mutated phantasms, inflatable simulacra, and innovative pictographic installations coexist.

Fascinated by the inflatable decoys employed by the enigmatic “Ghost Army” during WWII, Pool merges VR technologies with inflatable to construct captivating installations and digital artworks. He deliberately harnesses mechanical reproduction to challenge the notion of authenticity, yet imbues each sculpture with a vibrant vitality that transcends mere simulacra.

“Though born from mechanical reproduction methods and conceived within the virtual utopia of VR, each inflatable sculpture breathes life through its physically inflated form, inviting interaction with its natural environment.”
