Inflatable Sculptures
Kalman Pool’s inflatable sculptures are sealed, air-breathing beings—fragile yet monumental. Inspired by military decoys, synthetic biology, and speculative evolution, these works are first modeled in VR sculpting software, then disassembled into inflatable formats and meticulously stitched from hundreds of PVC or TPU components. They exist somewhere between living organisms and fabricated avatars. Though made through mechanical reproduction, they pulse with aliveness—born, inflated, and destined to leak, decay, or collapse. These bodies challenge the boundary between the real and the artificial, the soft and the eternal, inviting empathy for the inanimate.
